Species: Pongo Pygmaeus/Orangutan | Location: Semenggoh Orangutan Center Borneo, Malaysia
A visit to the Semenggoh Orangutan Center in Borneo provided a close up encounter with this handsome guy. This big orangutan is considered semi-wild. This means there are no cages or bars to hold in the orangutan. They are free to come and go, reproduce as they want. They live their best lives. Food is provided daily if the orangutans choose to come and eat. Any encounter at the center is on the orangutan's terms. What a great way to approach rehab and conservation. Many of these animals have some form of defect that makes it difficult to fully survive in the wild on their own. Did you notice the abnormality in the left eye of this guy?
