Male Mallard In Eclipse Plumage
Species: Mallard Male | Location: Scotland Highlands, United Kingdom Of Great Britain And Northern Ireland
This male Mallard duck is in its temporary eclipse plumage. This plumage occurs in summer after breeding and lasts for only a short time. You can see the more typical green feathers of the head and neck starting to grow back in. I took this photo on one of our several nature walks in Northern Scotland.
