Species: Humpback Whale (Megaptera Novaeangliae) | Location: Great Bear National Forest, Canada
It was our first full day out on our expedition in British Columbia. We were watching a mother and calf calmly swimming alongside our vessel, when suddenly the little guy decided to show off and breached right in front of the bow of the boat. It all happened so fast that I didn't have any opportunity to clear the railing on the bow in my shot, but that gives you a pretty good sense of how close this whale was to us. Despite its flaws, I love the way this picture exhibits the sheer power of this creature as it emerges into our world for a brief moment before crashing back into the water.
