Species: Humans | Location: On The Road To Mantadia Lodge, Madagascar
As we started photo adventure in Madagascar we stopped along to road to capture pictures of the culture, life style, and people as we traveled to Mantadia Lodge. At one stop we were observing people planting rice with two women leaning out of a small roadside building window. One of the fellow travelers and I thought it would be interesting to get a picture of the women. He got there ahead of me and was in front the women taking photos and the ladies began to laugh, it Must Have Been Funny to them. Fortunately I got the pictures from the side view which resulted in a much better photographic perspective.
About The Photographer
My uncle, a professional photographer gave me an Argus C-3, a light meter, and some basic information about taking photos when I was about 16. That got me started but I only became more serious after I retired in 2008 and started to engage in adventure/expedition travel using and upgrading my Canon equipment over time. Several years ago I moved to the mirrorless Olmypus (now OM) system and lenses. My principal teachers and mentors became the professional photographers and experienced travelors with whom I traveled on photogrphic expeditions with National Georgpahic/Lindblad and Natural Habitat. Local camera clubs and learning sessions on the web have also been helpful. I create a trip story telling album for each of our trips that serve as a medium to share my photos and experiences with friends and family. As my photographic skills improved I have found sucess in having my photos in juried galleries earning several awards as well as in a juried 2023-2024 traveling nature exhibit. That is the extent of how I market my photography and have placed numerous photos in homes and a coffee shop. However, as we experienced the life changing expiences of adventure traveling our perspectives on photography changed. Our overall objective is to share the global nature of our planet and the need to protect all aspects of our enviroment. Most folks haven't experienced the clutures, wildlife, and beauty that exist beyond the walls of their immediate lives.
