Species: Brown Bear | Location: Katmai National Park, United States Of America
On our Ultimate Alaska Wildlife Safari we were able to visit Katmai National Park. Our guides had known of this whale carcass that had washed up on the beach several weeks before, but had been unable to land on the beach to observe. Fortunately the weather broke and we were able to land and observe multiple big male brown bears interacting and feeding on the carcass. Justin, one of our guides, said that in 20+ years of bear viewing this was only the second time he had seen bears feeding on a whale. Even our Alaskan bush pilots joined us in viewing this rare event. What a day!
