Female lion and cub, Mala Mala, Sabi Sands Reserve Near Kruger National Park, South Africa
What Are We Looking At Mom?

Species: Female Lion And Cub | Location: Mala Mala, Sabi Sands Reserve Near Kruger National Park, South Africa

This lioness and her cub sat overlooking the river at Mala Mala reserve, September 1, 2023. We followed this pride of lions for a mile or so until they reached the river. There was an injured cub that was trying his best to keep up. Unfortunately the little cub did not make it to the river with the others. We wanted so badly to pick him up and get care for him but realized that was not the law of nature where only the strong survive. In the later afternoon as the sun started to set, this small family was seen relaxing by the river.

About The Photographer

Cropped img 1656
I am a fairly new photographer, definitely an amateur. I use a Nikon P900 and Nikon P950. My focus is bird and animal photography, always trying to get a better shot! My husband and I are birders and have found that birding takes us to some phenomenal places and gives us the opportunity to see many diverse cultures, landscapes and animals in addition to the birds we seek. We have just completed our National Park Bucket list by visiting all 63 US National Parks, all 50 states and 7 continents. We are looking forward to some quality bird photo opportunities next year as we tour with Nat Hab to Costa Rica and Australia. There are still many places to explore and we can’t wait!
