Species: Harpy Eagle | Location: Northern Pantanal, Brazil
We were on a river safari in the Northern Pantanal. Everywhere you turned you saw wonderful sights: birds, caiman, tapers. etc. Suddenly a large bird emerged from the underbrush on one side of the river and effortlessly started a steep climb across the river and up into the forest on the left of us. It landed far above and we were able to photograph the Harpy Eagle while we waited for it to launch an attack on an unsuspecting passerby. Nope. It sat and we waited. We learned that viewing a Harpy Eagle was relatively rare and that they were elusive throughout its range. We watched as long as we could and then moved on.
