Species: Wildebeest | Location: Northern Serengeti, Tanzania, United Republic Of
The Wildebeest had not had their first river crossing at the Mara. They had been testing the waters for hours. Finally, the word came that an early morning crossing had occurred. Our Guide called out and we all scrambled from our 5:00 A.M. coffee, jumped in the jeeps in the hopes of catching the action. We arrived at Lookout 4 but too late. Many wildebeests and zebras milled about but no active crossing. Later at approximately 8:00 A.M., we were fortunate enough to catch a crossing of an approximately 4,000-5,000. Now I know why a herd of wildebeest is called a "confusion".
