Species: Lion And Cape Buffalo | Location: Savuti Camp, Botswana
Three young female lions tackled the cape buffalo around the legs as a young male lion jumped on its back and by using his mass was able to bring the buffalo to the ground.
While on the Nat Hab Epic Botswana and Namibia trip, our guide heard a distress call coming from a cape buffalo from several kilometers away. When we arrived at the scene one of the two large bulls had been taken down by a large pride of lions. The other buffalo stood by in the middle of a large watering hole watching his buddy’s demise. That buffalo finally walked away to the other side of the water hole and could have gone into the bush to live another day. Just as he exited the water a vehicle drove up with a family of tourists. The buffalo rammed into the side of the jeep then chased after it hitting it again in the rear. The commotion got the attention of 5 lions who rounded the water hole and gave chase. It was hard to watch from start to finish but this is nature.
