Species: Jaguar | Location: Northern Pantanal, Porto Jofre, Brazil
A jaguar we had been following for an hour while he hunted for prey along the shoreline, sensed a caiman in the lily pads and thrust himself into the water. Unfortunately, he came up empty.
We were in a boat approximately 70 feet away. I had my finger on the shutter release button while I was tracking him. Upon his first movement towards the water, I clicked the photo. This was part of our Natural Habitat trip in late August, 2024 where we spent two and one-half days, scouring the rivers from the small settlement of Porto Jofre at the end of the 200 mile road through the northern Pantanal, Brazil I was using at least a 10-year old Nikon 600 with a fixes 500 mm Nikor lens.
