Species: Polar Bear | Location: Churchill Wildlife Management Area, Canada
This image was taken from the NatHab rover in November 2023, during a time that the polar bears were waiting for the ice on the Hudson Bay to freeze. On that day, there was an unexpected number of polar bears found together on the ice because there had been an earlier kill, and the bears were still working on some scraps of prey. The young bear, visibly thinner, bear on the far left often lagged behind the other two and its mother, leaving doubt as to whether it ultimately survived.
