Species: Rissa Tridactyla | Location: Fox Island, Katmai Peninsula, Ak, United States Of America
A Black-legged Kittiwake pair off Fox Island (Katmai Peninsula, AK). This was the only chick I could spot using my Nikon Coolpix P1000 taking advantage of the 3000 optical zoom capability. Black-legged Kittiwakes (Rissa tridactyla) are smallish gulls that typically nest in colonies on rocky cliffs in non-restrictive pairings (M-F, F-F) in Arctic locales. They eat small fish and may travel 30 miles in search of food. Their populations are declining in response to warming ocean temperatures.
