Nat Hab's 2024 Guest Photo Contest

Species: Spotted Hyena | Location: Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya

As we wrapped up a gloriously long day on safari, our group settled into our drive back to Hornbill Campsite - assuming our incredible sightings were finished for the day. Much to our surprise and enjoyment, a small family of spotted hyenas popped out of the grasses only a few turns away from our campsite. This youngster seemed particularly curious and bold...seemingly challenging us to try to pass. We were all too happy to stay put and enjoy the show!

I am an amateur wildlife photographer, and middle school science teacher, who loves to explore the outdoors! Whether I'm on a safari in Kenya or hiking in a local park in Virginia, I enjoy learning new photography techniques & strategies and capturing wildlife from interesting angles. As a bonus, I can incorporate my experiences and images right into my science classroom during our ecology units!
