Nat Hab's 2024 Guest Photo Contest

orangutan, Semenggoh Nature Reserve, Malaysia
Banana Bliss

Species: Orangutan | Location: Semenggoh Nature Reserve, Malaysia

We visited the orangutan sanctuary at feeding time and spent a couple hours just watching members of the orangutan community -- moms, dads, babies -- come into the open for fresh fruit. I took a lot of photos that showed the fences and feeding platform of the sanctuary, but I also wanted to really zoom in on some of the orangutans to create a photo that looked like it could have been taken in the wild. Just as I was focusing on this large male climbing through the trees, he popped a small banana in his mouth. It was gone pretty quickly so I'm glad he was already in my viewfinder!

About The Photographer

Cropped img 7723
My photography hobby includes shooting with both the iPhone and my Canon 70D. Capturing wildlife photography during our travels definitely helps us remember our trips. I especially love capturing primates with the camera because they are so much like us, sharing more than 90% of our DNA. Birds are another popular subject for me, although a frustrating subject at times due to their speed and small size!
