Species: Desert Giraffe | Location: Palmwag Concession, Namibia
Thrilling to see desert-adapted giraffe, aka Angolan giraffe, during a short stay at Wilderness' Hoanib River/Skeleton Coast Camp. While we were there as part of Nat Hab's Namibia photographic trip in Fall 2022, the BBC was also present, creating a documentary about this magical subspecies of giraffe. Desert giraffes make a wild and magical place seem almost surreal, especially in the late afternoon light as the fog rolls over the ephemeral Hoanib River bank from the Atlantic, many miles away. The Giraffe Research Foundation is conducting research on the desert giraffe as well.
