Tigress In Pursuit Of Prey
Species: Bengal Tigress | Location: Kanha National Park & Tiger Reserve, Central India, India
By Robert Burke
Serendipitous one-on-one encounter with our jeep, as we stopped to photograph a sambar deer. This tigress was seen in the background, perhaps fifty yards away. The deer soon sensed it and bolted into the woods across the road in front of us. The tigress strode confidently toward us as she picked up her pace to pursue her prey. This photo was taken just as our driver re-started the engine to back up to a safer distance. Those piercing eyes and that muscular physique are unforgettable, as she gave one look at us, just a few yards away, before following the trail of the deer.
About The Photographer
I am an accomplished photographer, non-professional, and owe much of my ability to self-study and engagement with the professional photographers and other travelers I've met on Lindblad and NatHab trips. Mostly I photograph landscapes, wildlife, and moments that I want to capture during my travels. Since my retirement as a pediatrician, global travel has been a passion for my wife Bonnie and myself. I use my favorite photographs to create a personal photo journey book after each adventure, and to share in travel articles that I write for our local newspaper. Many of these adventures formed the basis for the "Buddy the Globetrotter" tales I have authored as a juvenile fiction series for middle school and advanced readers.
