Species: African Elephant | Location: Okavango Delta, Botswana
We were exploring the Okavango Delta on a small motorized boat when we noticed this large elephant walking toward us in the water. Our guide stopped the boat and said the elephant would come right in front of us, and he did. Ears out, one foot out of the water, looking right at us, the elephant was bathed in the soft light of the setting sun.
About The Photographer
I'm a biologist and photographer and enjoy exploring nature with artistic intent. My fascination with the natural world led me to focus mainly on landscapes, seascapes, and wildlife, be it local or far afield. Some of my photographs present large, dramatic views that capture the grandeur of an expansive landscape. Others focus on smaller segments of the landscape in a more intimate and expressive way. I particularly enjoy taking photographs of animals in their natural habitat. Close-up photographs show features of the animals in great detail, while other images are environmental portraits of the creatures which bring attention to their habitat. My trip to Africa with Natural Habitat Adventures was the trip of a lifetime. It afforded me the privilege to observe and photograph beautiful animals in their natural surroundings. My photographs have been published by National Geographic travel publications and various magazines, books and newspapers. Several galleries have displayed my prints or digital images, including group exhibitions in the de Young Museum in San Francisco and the International Photography Hall of Fame in St. Louis.Follow Mark on Instagram: @markzukowskiphotography
