Species: Gasteracantha Fornicata | Location: Mossman Gorge, Daintree Rainforest, Queensland., Australia
We spotted this little spiny orb-weaver in the Daintre Rainforest, Queensland, Australia, thanks to the NatHab Ultimate Australia experience. Gasteracantha Fornicata is the first Australian species of spider to be named and classified by Johan Christian Fabricius in 1775, however it was first collected on a voyage with James Cook. It is a "sit-and-wait" predator, where it waits for small insects to approach its web.
