Location: Okavango Delta, Botswana
This photograph was taken on the Secluded Botswana expedition. I was inspired to take the photograph because of the amazing range of postures of the individuals in this one elephant group. I was intrigued by the juvenile at lower left. who is resting with his trunk draped over the hip of a slightly older individual, who seems to be taking a nap. At right, a young calf leans against its mother for security. It was only after I took the photograph that I realized the extraordinary way that the elephant in the middle of the group has shrouded herself in a fog of dust, and how in the moment captured in the image, the dust did not obscure any of the other individuals in this elephant group.
