Species: Baby Elephant | Location: Okavango Delta North, Botswana
This baby elephant brought me endless joy and laughter throughout the day! He seemed to be as curious about us as we were about him, and I couldn’t help but think he was sticking his tongue out at us as he extended his trunk to catch our scents. I learned from our fantastic guide, Francis, that elephants have an extraordinary sense of smell, which made this encounter even more fascinating. I loved capturing the close-up of this little one’s trunk, nostrils, and mouth.
Elephants have held a special place in my heart since childhood. Their exuberant expressiveness and deep emotional bonds with their families are truly touching. They experience a range of feelings--joy, love, grief, rage, stress and compassion--that resonate deeply with me. My heart is with the elephants! I miss them and I miss Botswana!
