Species: Water Thick Knee | Location: The Great Zambezi River, Toka Leyo, Zambia, Zambia
On our first real safari outing in Africa, we went out on boat from Toka Leyo on the Mighty Zambezi river. It was overwhelming! We saw many hippos, crocodiles, and beautiful birds, but most of my photos were blurred and unremarkable. Then we had a quiet moment drifting along the river bank where three thick-knees hunkered against the sand. To my delight, they stayed - relying on their incredible camouflage for safety which gave me the chance to snap a few unhurried pictures of these lesser-known, lovely birds.
