Species: Orangutan | Location: Sepilok, Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia
Captured in Sepilok Park, Sabah, this young male orangutan is caught in a moment of baring his teeth—a classic threat display or aggressive display. This behavior is commonly used by orangutans to communicate dominance, establish territory, or ward off perceived threats. Rather than engaging in physical confrontation, primates like this orangutan use body language to show strength and assert their presence.
This image offers a glimpse into the complex social behaviors of these endangered primates, a powerful reminder of the delicate balance in Borneo’s forests as orangutans struggle to maintain their place in an ever-changing environment.
